At the stinky pub tonight Brennan made me repeat the following affirmations:
"I have the passion"
"I have the passion and I'm going to build it back up again" (don't question the contradictions, it's a direct quote)
Then I volunteered the following;
"I believe in love"
"I have freedom and financial independence" (he liked that one)
Now, quietly (just between you and me, eh?), I'd just like to add;
"I am the kind of person I'd be happy to know, goddamnit, and people who can't appreciate that are just idiots"

That's not contradictory as far as I can see. Maybe "I *am* building it back up again" would work better, though.
Intentions placed in the future tense are less effective (i have found) - coz the future by definition never arrives.
"I have freedom and financial independence" (he liked that one)
I think my own personal brain would reject this one (certainly the second part anyways) on "is patently & indisputably just bullshit" grounds - but if you can see it etc
Now, quietly (just between you and me, eh?), I'd just like to add;
"I am the kind of person I'd be happy to know, goddamnit, and people who can't appreciate that are just idiots"
And I like the sentiment of this one but my understanding of affirmatory principles says the second clause (again) doesn't work.
Yr subconscious picks up on the sense created by individual words; it doesn't care much about semantics
"I am the kind of person I'd be happy to know" (good, if a bit overelaborate) "goddamnit" (emphasis; sure) "people can't appreciate that.. idiots" (not so good)
But maybe I'm just being a nitpicky downer and you should ignore me, heh
Hmmm, yes, I'm sure you're right ... I did mention that this exchange took place at the pub, didn't I?
How about, "people I respect respect me"?
Overelaborate is a problem ... it's true.
