OMG
Four. Days. Off.
This pleases me.
I must not waste the next three like the first.
My return to blogging has thus far been kind of banal, of late in any case. I suppose it was often like that in the old days anyway.
Tomorrow may well be a less banal day, as well as being at the very least another in the series. (Of days.)

Rules
I'm making some rules.
I'm not allowed to buy any more books until i read at least a third of the ones I've got waiting. Opportunities to buy graphic novels or illustrated art books at highly discounted prices (ie in an op shop) don't count in that rule. No more novels, or Amazon and its ilk until I get through the backlog.
What else?
No more spending without reference to my new Financial Priorities list. Food and drink and the like are exempt from the rule. Also art supplies.
I will turn off the power at the wall in our lounge room whenever I think of it and it's practicable.
Because the rules are public I will have to stick to them.
Don't make fun of my rules. I know they're small, but they're a start.
A start of what, I hear you ask? I do not know.

Distracting
I've been trying to work and listen to Radio National at the same time. It doesn't work. I can't concentrate. It works when I'm just making things with my hands, but not when I am reading/writing/working on the computer.
So I need to listen to music instead. But everything distracts me. What could I listen to that wouldn't distract me but that would energise me to work reading/writing/on the computer? No lyrics might be good. Or not English language. Not too wishy washy or la di la. Or too angry or oppressive.
I can tell you now, Jens Lekman doesn't work. He's totally annoying me.
So I don't want to take any more chances. Just need a sure thing.
... OK?

It's 'another post' o'clock
I am striking while the posting energy iron is hot.
In a strange twist of deja-vu-esque 2007-2008 synchronicity, I am shortly to go on another residency.
I am going to this house in a small village for a month:

It's going to be beautiful, productive, peaceful, old, interesting, sometimes lonely and probably some other things that I cannot yet predict.
There, the posting iron will not only not be hot, it won't even exist. That's correct. No internetiendo! It's a gaspworthy thing, yessir.
I will, however, survive.

Post title
My blog has got heaps suckier lately. It's not specific enough. Gotta work on that.
Must. Push. Envelope.
I had this great idea for an exhibition today as I was walking down Cleveland St on my dinner break. Well, I thought it was great at the time, I still think it's very fine. In about 24 hours I'll think it's really banal. In about two weeks I'll know if it's stupid. If I still want to do it in six months it might get done. So entrenched is the procrastination; so essential is the forward planning.
Anyway. My idea. [Oh - it's been all built up now.] I would hire a visual merchandiser to install the works for me in the best way that they could. In a window space, of course. They could use whatever fancy techniques they have. I would give them a bunch of Fimo objects and off they could go. And I could, like, audition different people by asking them to describe on the phone what it is they do. I could record what they're saying and then make a wowie zowie superficial and graphic animation that would illustrate what they're saying. This video would show all by itself inside the gallery.
I think I'm going to pitch this to someone. I like it.
My art ideas are like dreams and my dreams are like art ideas. I suppose that's because both happen in my head.
Ho hum.
I have been thinking a lot about Adrian Mole lately, the TV show specifically. I really think it was very good.

Loose End
I am not sure what to do with myself. So many big productions (shows x 2, new job begun, moving whole house, parental visit) just completed. So many big productions yet to be mounted. I am not sure where to start.
Perhaps I should do my tax. Or write my Asialink application. Or proposals for shows. Or go to the studio and do some work.
I am not sure. All of these things need doing.
Of course, I haven't seen the Simpsons movie yet ... is it any good?

Friendship requires honesty
If I were this blog's friend, its true friend, I'd take it aside and confront it.
"You've changed," I'd say. "Take a long hard look at yourself and see what you've become."
I'd only be telling it because I loved it.

becarse yr a luddie
For the worst Scottish accents ever recorded on film, see 'Brigadoon' with Gene Kelly and Cyd Charisse. But don't go watching it for any other kind of entertainment value. There's not enough dancing to make it bearable. It doesn't even have one great memorable song or dance or scene.
You'll thank me.
Spend that time reading The Slave by Isaac Bashevis Singer. Or Middlesex, that's even better. And less depressing! I am going to read Swann's Way next.
No, really. I am. I'm staring on the bus tomorrow. I figure it will make the time pass more slowly, thus delaying my arrival at the office.
Call me [insert square here] if you want.
(...is my square magic working?)

Favourite blogs to read
I am going to link my favourite blogs to read in an effort to win friends and raise the bar just a little bit above complete tidal wave of consciousness.
But all that technical stuff is so tedious ... really this is a teaser.
Whose blogs will be listed? Will it be yours? Will it be theirs? Will there be more than two?
... I fear not.
So, one day, I am going to do this.
Yay for everything.
